In brief: Yes and no

If the amblyopia is refractive and the patient is under 10 y/o, this may increase the effectiveness of treatment, because sometimes one lens being much thicker then the other can also effect focusing in the bad eye.
Rarely after 10-13 y/o without prior treatment will this be helpful.

In brief: No!

Contact can help with the correction of the eye and improve the vision to the maximum that the amblyopia will allow, but can not change the level of amblyopia ( unless the patient is less than 7 years old).
