In brief: Contagiousness

Chickenpox is contagious 1-2 days before the rash and until all the blisters have scabbed.

In brief: Till lesions crusted

Age old advise has been to keep the child away from others until all lesions are crusted over.

In brief: 7 days & dry

Once the blisters emerge you can start the clock on isolation.
The general rule is seven days from the first lesion or until they have all dried, whichever is later. Since it is contagious before the rash, secondary cases could start showing up 10-21 days after that exposure.
