Acl=anterior-cruciate-ligament.
This is a tough ligament connecting the upper back of knee to lower front of knee (see pic). A torn acl means a tear--which could be partial or complete. Complete-tear = totally ripped a part as shown here. It is an important ligament in knee, especially for active folks, like athletes. If you are very active, consider have it repaired. Consult doc.
