Some bowlegged children become bowlegged adults. Often increased pressure is placed on the inside of their knees. This may be to premature arthritis. If it is early in the disease, an osteotomy or bony realignment may help alleviate the pain. When the joint has become very damaged, a joint replacement may be necessary.
