Irritation may stem from dryness, chemical exposure, allergy, autoimmune disorder, glaucoma, uveitis, viral conjunctivitis, bacterial conjunctivitis, surgery, trauma, uv exposure or burn, infection, and much much more. A good eye doc can help you narrow it down.
Many Possibilities. This is a broad question with many possible answers. Most commonly, chronic redness can come from inflammatory conditions including eye allergies, eye dryness, eye rubbing, episcleritis (a surface inflammation), and/or subconjunctival hemorrhages (small burst blood vessels on the whites of the eyes). Start with artificial tears for lubrication & make sure not to rub the eyes; see eye md if needed.
