In brief: Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is a life saver for many cancer conditions, like leukemia, lymphoma, etc.
Not giving chemotherspy can cause severe side effects, including death. Talking to the child rationally usually helps to convince him/ her about the necessity of chemotherapy. Parent acceptance of the need for chemotherapy might convince the child.

In brief: Difficult decision
This is one of those gut wrenching decisions, and sometimes there needs to be more discussion before a final decision is made.
No child wants to die, but they don't necessarily understand what the implications are of not doing chemo, nor are they just going to "get it" after you explain. If the cancer is terminal, then maybe honor their wish. If treatable, then address their fears.
