In brief: Low saturated fat
The best diet for lowering triglycerides and cholesterol is to maintain a diet that is low in saturated fats (primarily fats from red meat, dairy, chicken skin, lard, etc.
), high in fiber (whole grain, vegetables, etc.), low in simple carbohydrates (sugar, starches, "white" foods like rice, pasta, etc.), and low or moderate alcohol consumption. Follow up with your doctor to monitor your progress.

In brief: Low-fat low carb
Low-fat diets (avoiding fried and/or fatty food) helps with overall cholesterol levels and with the LDL or 'bad' cholesterol.
Low-sugar / low-carb diets can help if you have elevated triglycerides.

In brief: ↑ Nat. Fat, ↓Sugar
Cholesterol (?$, but misleading): a fat molecule manufactured by every animal cell, building block of each cell membrane (enables membrane fluidity/movement without tearing), fundamental to survival of every animal cell.
Lipoproteins (proteins which transport all fats in the water outside cells) is the correct issue for artery disease (e.g. Ldl ?700 nmol/l, HDL ?45 µmol/l). Study: nusi.Org, lustig.

Low Fat foods promoted as healthy since the early 1950s (contrary to all previous experience & evidence; i.e. the Paleo concept & all research prior to Ancel Keys, PhD, 1953). Study: "Big Fat Lies", "McGovern's Report", "Science for Smart People" videos, along with work of: Gary Taubes, MD, especially Peter Attia, MD (eatingacademy.com), NuSI.org, Robert Lustig, etc. for better understanding.

Working with clients who adopt HF/LC, not just LC, & tracking their responses: Body Fat, NMR measured lipoprotein concentrations, HbA1c, BP, how the feel, etc., I have been impressed, as has Peter Attia, how rapidly & dramatically better people do, nearly always enabling big reductions in & elimination of medications (Rx & OTC) with excellent responses. But then Health is Bad for Mecial Business.
