In brief: Probably Not.

First, check thyroid function (incl.
, rt3, total t4, t3ria, and antibodies). Second, get a vap test and check lp(a), an inherited risk factor for blood fats that can only be corrected with niacin. Third, all drugs (incl., simvastatin) have side-effects (e.g., muscle pains). Get the tests done and, depending on outcome, weigh risk vs benefits. If you make a change then repeat vap test in 6-8 weeks.

If your total cholesterol is 167, then it would be useful to know what your LDL, HDL and your triglycerides are. Not sure if total is 167 or LDL is 167. If it is LDL then you need additional therapy.

167 mg/dl ? Is this total cholesterol or LDL cholesterol.
If it is LDL you still have a significantly elevated value & need to continue your treatment, with perhaps additional therapy. If this is your total cholesterol, then would be useful to know your hdl, triglycerides and LDL cholesterol. Total can be low along wit LDL but if HDL is low an tg's are elevated then additional rx may be necessary.
