My thumbnail has white spots on it. Is this due to deficiencies?

In brief: White spots on nails

Maybe.
Many mineral deficiencies e.g. Zinc can cause white spots on the nails. However defciencies usually will show up on most of your nails, not just the thumbnail. Many conditions can cause spots on your nails so your best course of action is to maintain a healthy life style and meanwhile consult with you physician about obtaining regular checkups on your health.

Dr. Pizzo is right on. Get your zinc level checked. Iron deficiency can also cause white spots.
