In brief: Sudden weakness

Sudden episodes of weakness may occur where the only abnormal blood test is a high potassium.
This is referred to as hyperkalemic paralysis. Two other forms are hypokalemic and normokalemic where low or normal potassium levels are found. The disorder can run in families. Not easy to predict, but needs prompt treatment when episodes occur.
