In brief: Weeks to forever!

I have patients with trochanteric bursitis get years off relief, and other with only two-three weeks.
I use more xylocaine (lidocaine) (2%) to see if the pain disappears after injection, to make sure i hit the spot. But duration of relief is variable.

Agree with above. Unfortunately some patients have only relief lasting duration of the anesthetic.
