I was diagnosed with pre diabetes. Should I treat it as if I have type two diabetes?

Heart protection too. Dr. Fisher is correct. In addition, pre-diabetes is a risk factor for heart disease and you should pay attention to reducing other heart disease risk factors. Lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides, etc) and blood pressure should be checked. Presumably you don't smoke.
Yes and no.... My personal opinion: if you have some weight to lose and some diet mods to make and some exercise to start i would give you six months to demonstrate some progress. If no progress or you are already lean and active, i would consider putting you on low to mod dose metformin. I would monitor you routinely - maybe every 6 months for complications and development of overt dm.
