In brief: Try to do again

Minimum of six weeks of IV antibiotic therapy.
Once off antibiotics, blood tests to look for signs of infection returning. If incision and bloodwork good then attempt to put another hip repalcement back in. Cultures at time of surgery and tests during surgery possibly may show continued infection and ultimate replacement may need to be delayed further until all signs of infection are gone.

In brief: Replace joint

Two stage replacement of the joint after infection is the accepted and safe practice if the patient is free from infection.
Attention, care, and time are the tools for thorough evaluation prior to placement of the second prosthesis.
