I wear a retainer at night and have a white spot, like a blister or dead skin, on my gums. It only hurts if something hits against it. What is it?

In brief: Pressure

The retainer is most likely pushing too hard on that exact spot.
If left too long it could cause permanent damage to the gum tissue. Take it back to your orthodontist and have them adjust it so it does not push on that gum tissue any longer.

In brief: Blister

Your retainer may be irritating your tissues and need a very simple adjustment.
Return to the Dentist or specialist Orthodontist who made the retainer for you for a reevaluation.
