In brief: Common

I've seen anxiety as a common symptom of ad.
It never has the depth that anxiety has in younger patients i.e. To explore psychosocial factors and give simple medication treatments. It is most likely a CNS connection but look at vascular and other organ systems for imbalance. Some older people are more affected by the somatic. Consider depresson and psychotic features. Treat symptoms, low doses.

In brief: Yes

When you have alzheimers, there is difficulty or an inability to form a new memory and you have to work harder to figure things out.
This can be stressful and can lead to anxiety. The anxiety is a normal reaction to a problem. The way to treat this is to decrease stress and increase support for the person. Medicines for anxiety are less likely to be helpful than behavioral interventions.
