In brief: Urine culture
Pregnant women are at increased risk for urinary tract infections beginning very early in the pregnancy.
If left untreated these urinary tract infections can become more serious and cause kidney infections. Pregnant women with a kidney infection have an increased chance of going into preterm labor. This is why pregnant women are screened for a urinary tract infection.

Urine tests will include urinalysis (u/a) and a culture & sensitivity (c&s).
Your doctor wll be looking for signs of infection and high glucose in the urine (a sign of diabetes). They can look for proteins in the urine. Albumin (a protein that may indicate preeclampsia, pregnancy-induced high blood pressure).
