In brief: Reexamination needed

It is possible that your strain is resistant to the antibiotic that was prescribed for you.
You need to be reevaluated by the doctor that gave you the antibiotic to be sure it will help you or if you need a different type of treatment.

In brief: How long after?

The antibiotics need time to take effect - at least a few days.
If it has been a few days maybe you need a different antibiotic. Lastly if you have mono - and not strep throat, the antibiotic will do nothing for you. All sore throats are not 'strep'.
