In brief: Lung Cancer Spread

The life expectancy of a patient with lung cancer metastasis depends on a number of factors.
Most important is the location of the metastasis. Lymph node disease can sometimes be cured. Those patients with isolated metastasis to the brain or to the adrenal gland have a much more favorable prognosis than patients with widespread disease. Average survival for stage IV disease is about 8 months.

In brief: 8 months

Life expectancy is the time that 1/2 of the patients have died.
For stage IV non small cell lung cancer it is about 8 months. Unfortunately the 5 yr survival is only about 10%.
