Should someone with a dislocated shoulder injury still use dumbbells?

In brief: Maybe not

With a shoulder dislocation u need to be careful not to get into positions that could cause your shoulder to redislocate, or aggravate a torn rotator cuff.
Using dumbbells/kettle bells are sometimes useful to strengthen the rotator cuff to help prevent redislocation, they can help with the dynamic stability of the shoulder. Check with your therapist or physician to be sure what you are doing is ok.
