In brief: Many treatments

There are over the counter topical meds.
They can be frozen off they can be removed by surgery.

In brief: "persistence"

There are many ways to get rid of plantar warts.
The over the counter methods include topical liquids applied to the wart and the "cold" sprays. Rx treatments are similar; topical agents (but a greater variety) and liquid nitrogen. Most important is to be persistent in the treatment; keep treating until it is 100% gone and watch carefully for reoccurrence. See your doctor if it doesn't improve.
