In brief: Can be controlled !
There are over 20 million americans tha have asthma and is is now common in children.
As asthma is a chronic disease it is not curable in a sense but it can be very well controlled, with kids leading normal active lives. There are many olympian champions who have been asthmatics. It is important to understand what asthma is and the triggers in the environment as well as genetics and allergies.

In brief: Outgrowing asthma
or rather outgrowing bronchial hyper-reactivity, some do at school entry, others at puberty, asthma by itself, either allergic or nonallergic can be fully controlled to lead a normal life and compete in sports, some allergic asthma patients can be be given immunotherapy, when successful, there is much reduction in symptoms score, progression of disease and need for rescue/controller medications

In brief: Asthma
There is no cure for asthma for any age, but it can be controlled by different kinds of medication such as bronchodilator such as albuterol, anti-inflammatory such as steroids, also controlling the environment to eliminate triggers.

In brief: Can be controlled
While there is no "cure" for asthma, medications can keep it under control so that you will have no limitations in your activities.
