At what point should a freckle that grows to a large spot be reason for concern?

In brief: ABCDE's

Pigmented skin lesions are of concern when we have the abcde's: a) asymmetric ("odd shaped"), b) borders that are indistinct, c) multiple colors within the same lesion, d) diameter greater than 6mm (1/4 inch), and e) a lesion that is elevated.
The more abcde's we have the more suspicious one should be. Additionally, if you are concerned, it should be checked by your family doctor or dermatologist.

Removal is always good because it no longer is a problem. See your doctor.

In brief: Annual body

checks are a must.
IF a freckle enlarges, has multiple colors in it, bleeds, or hurts it should be rechecked sooner than a month. there is a new machine we have called melafind that can take a picture of a mole and determine if its abnormal and needs a biopsy
