Exactly. Too many of these folks get told they just have iron deficiency. In fact, both may be present.

You may have other separate problem in addition to the iron deficiency anemia.
You may have a blood disorder that is called thalassemia trait, in addition to the iron deficiency/. Thalassemia trait can explain why your rbc is elevated and your MCV is out proportionally low to the level of hb. Talk to your doctor and get the blood test to check it.
