How long does metoprolol 100mg take to lower blood pressure?

Short and Long Term. Well, the drug takes effect in ~2 hrs, but there is a development of effect over time when starting it, with peak effects not occurring for a few weeks. That said, beta blockers (and metoprolol in particular, second maybe to atenolol) are poor choices for first line treatment of blood pressure. A diuretic like hydrochlorothiazide or an "ace inhibitor" is usually a better first choice. Ymmv.

BP Rx. Asks if one BP Rx is better than other for 76 Mom. ANS: neither you list is a diuretic and the SHEP study (in elderly) demonstrated that chlorthalidone is all that is needed in most. So have her ask why why she is not on this to start with. She may not need any thing else. Nothing is better in the elderly. Read more...

My blood pressure has been high taking 3 medications and walgreens pharma said I should not take metoprolol and atenolol together so I need to know?

Talk to doctor. Walgreen's may have something there, it would seem ill advised to use two drugs of the same class. (beta blockers). But your physician may have a reason for this strategy. Talk to your physician and see if this is a problem. Read more...
Beta blockers. Both medicines are beta blockers which lower blood pressure and pulse. Usually taking an adequate dose of one or the other would be better than taking both. There can be other reasons for taking beta blockers; ask the prescribing physician before you change or stop any BP meds. Good luck! Read more...

I just started on blood pressure meds 2 days ago it metoprolol. 25 mg. Twice daily. And my doc put me on clonidinr hcl0.1 As needed. Is it okay to take the two together. Or should I wait an estimated time between the two?

Can take together. The two medicines work by different medications, so there shd be no problem taking them together. Clonidine, in particular, is "centrally acting" & is supposed to stabilize ur BP, not cause low BP. However, that being said, if u take the 2 together & then start feeling bad, take ur BP right away & write it down. If ur BP drops precipitously 2-3 hrs after taking meds consistently, TTYD abt the prob. Read more...

Can I take viagold [sexual performaance for men] when I have high blood pressure? I'm taking metoprolol 50mg twice a day and has it under control.

I . I think it is important to understand that supplements and herbal remedies differ from traditional medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, in that, by law, they are not required by the government to have the same rigorous standards of proving that they are safe and effective by the fda. As long as a product has a disclaimer that it does not claim to treat any illness, the company selling it is basically able to make many claims regarding what the product can do. These products may well be effective and safe (although i would not spend my money on them unless they had data showing that they are indeed safe and effective), but they may not be. Also, interactions with medications you take for other conditions may occur, and there is no way of knowing this 100%. I would advise caution. Additionally, be aware that there are a great many products out there offering "male enhancement" or "improved sexual performance". None of these products are regulated by the fda, and none have shown any data proving their safety or efficacy. Despite this, many of the companies manufacturing these products make a great deal of money. I think a good rule of thumb is, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Read more...
Unknown effects. Viagold is a combination of L-Arginine, Siberian Ginseng, White Willow Bark, Jujube, Bamhyx Mari, Cayenne, Wild Yam, and Stinging Nettles. You are very likely wasting your money taking this stuff since the ingredients have never been shown scientifically to be safe or effective for anything. It may be okay to take with metoprolol, but nobody knows. It's never been studied. Read more...
