In brief: It may be very small
A ganglion cyst is a common benign condition usually associated with some weakness of the deep tissues surrounding a joint or tendon sheath allowing the synovial fluid to escape into a small sac or cyst.
It only needs treatment if painful or bothersome, so don't worry!

Sometimes they resolve on their own or may vary in size.

In brief: Too small and deep
If not painful or tender or unsightly may be left alone.

In brief: May be deep
Some ganglions are very small, 1-2 millimeters, and are right next to the joint.
In the wrist they may be under the tendons, and just can't be felt. We call these occult ganglion cysts.

In brief: Comes and goes
Some ganglion cyst (smaller ones) will come and go depending on the amount of inflammation/stress of the joint from which the ganglion originates.
