For example, if you have depression you usually have negative thoughts about yourself and do behaviors that contribute to your depression.

I would add that it isn't what we think or feel that requires correction, it's what we do with our thoughts and feelings that causes success or failure. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of several techniques that teach us to recognize our thoughts and feelings and how best to deal successfully with them to make our lives better.
