In brief: If you suspect it
You need a throat culture with "chocolate agar", because one cannot tell clinically if it's gc or any other sore throat cause (virus or bacteria), but you need to know precisely so that the treatment is correct - routine oran ab's may not do the trick.
It's embarassaing, but letting it get worse can lead to systemic spread to joints, meninges, so find out. Dr. Wainscoat describes well.

In brief: Sore throat
Gonorrheal infection of the mouth is rare.
Most gonorrhea infects the genitals or may spread through the blood causing fever, joint & muscle pain, headache & rash. Oral infection with gonorrhea is suspected when a patient who engages in unprotected oral sex informs their doctor. Gonorrhea may cause swelling and pain in the throat (pharyngitis) or it may cause tonsillitis & swallowing problems.
