I'm a nonsmoker, but my dad always smokes next to me. How can I protect my lungs?

In brief: Be direct

Tell your dad not to light up, or leave the area when he smokes.

In brief: Do not breathe smoke

As long as you are exposed to exhaled chemicals of cigarrete smoke, your lungs and airways have no protection.
Some people do not have enough respect for others and do not care if they are inflicting injury to other people by their actions.I am sorry for your situation. I suggest you do not stay around smokers regardless of relation.
