In brief: Obese & cholesterol
It is variable. Obesity certainly increases your chances of developing high cholesterol.
On the other hand, there are also genetic causes as well because there are obese people with low cholesterol and non-obese people with high cholesterol (like myself). That said, reducing ones obesity, even if it doesn't lower their cholesterol, will have countless other benefits to their health.
