What is chronic epididymitis?

Chronic inflammation. This is a chronic condition usually resulting from infection. This is a structure around the testicle that becomes tender and is usually treated with anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen. This is not life-threatening although it can impact a man's daily activities from discomfort and pressure.

When I sit down, my spermatic cord turns really dark and painful. I suffer from chronic epididymitis. What is going on?

See a urologist. I don't understand how you could see your spermatic cord or localize the pain to that structure. I'm also not sure what you mean by chronic epididymitis. Maybe you should see a urologist. Read more...

What do you do if you have a severe flare up of pain from chronic epididymitis and cannot get ahold of your urologist?

Go to ER. If having a severe flare up of pain, you need to be seen. You can go to your er and also have them contact the doctor on call for your urologist. Can you please tell me the percent of men that become completely infertile following severe bilateral chronic epididymitis? Any reference would help.

Depends. Infertility is not usually so black and white. Severe bilateral chronic epididymitis will certainly increase your risk for infertility above the usual 15% risk. How much will vary widely. It is possible it could obstruct the tubes that allow the sperm to leave the body and can also affect testicular functions like sperm and hormone production. It is important that this be treated now. My testicular length has shrunk from 5 to 3.4 cm. How can I reverse this? I do not use steroids but have chronic epididymitis of unknown etiology.

Testicular size. There is nothing you can do to increase the size of your testicles. My biggest concern is why you have chronic epididymitis at age 21. Have you been exposed to std's? Have you had mumps? I would recommend a urological workup to rule out other possible causes of your problem. Read more...
