In brief: Altho....

... Pediatricians have much greater, more intense, education, training and experience taking care of the problems of children and adolescents than family physicians.
If the issues are more than basic care, the pediatrician is best. Family doctors are not pediatricians!

In brief: Yes

Certain family docs accept newborns as patients.
They may or may not have hospital privileges to visit the baby in the hospital, however they are perfectly capable of office care for the newborns and beyond.

In brief: Family doctor

Your family doctor can be your doctor but isn't a pediatrician.
That doesn't mean he/she isn't a great doctor he/she just hasn't had the three years of pediatric specific training that pediatricians have.
