The best test to diagnose gallstones is an ultrasound.
Ct scans may also identify gallstones, but it is less sensitive than ultrasounds. Occasionally, a group of blood tests called liver enzymes can be elevated due to gallbladder disease but, if they are normal, one cannot assume there are no gallstones present.
