In brief: Usual but not normal
Paxil (paroxetine) has always been a consistent weight gainer until it it became a controlled release (cr) form. The reason? Plain Paxil (paroxetine) is released in the stomach where some receptor sites that stimulate appetite are located.
Paxil (paroxetine) stimulated them, and increased appetite causing weight gain. Paxil (paroxetine) cr bypasses those sites, so there is less stimulation, less appetite but still significant weight gain.
