In brief: Don't fight her but
Don't allow yourself to be abused that way.
You can do that with both love and dignity and if not both, certainly with dignity. Can you talk to her when things are calm? Does she have some form of emotional disorder? Do you have options as to how much time you spend with her? Will she listen to suggestions for calling a truce or getting counseling? Do you provoke or continue fights? Don't fight.

In brief: Abusive mother
Your age (44 on the question form) makes it likely you're no longer living with your mother. As an adult, you can decide how frequently or intimately you want to interact with her. You can also seek therapy for what are likely to be after-effects of having grown up in such a situation, and any ongoing patterns in you.
If you talk with her & she becomes abusive, you can end the conversation.
