In brief: Diagnosis Dependant

Psychiatric disorders often manifest in different ways & can vary throughout time depending on the individual.
It would be best to educate yourself on the illness the individual(s) you are caring for have been professionally diagnosed with. National alliance for the mentally ill (nami) & health care professionals for these individuals will be a good resource to gain insight into their needs.

In brief: Special need ?

It depends what mental illness s/he has.
Generally speaking they all need support and to be reminded of the importance of med compliance and to help them in what they may need and help them to stay safe.
