In brief: They Can Be
Learning disabilities appear to have some inheritability, such as dyslexia which is difficulty with reading comprehension.
This does not mean a child has to have the problem, but suggests that parents need to be alert if there is a problem surfacing.

In brief: Hereditary LD
There is stong evidence to suggest that learning disorders run in families.
This finding provides support for a "heritability factor" as a causal factor. A good history of the family should reveal that some members had difficulty learning or intellectually.

In brief: Strong heritability
Ld is considered an inherited condition.
Most people with ld have a positive family history of ld. But some people acquire ld as a consequence of perinatal problems such as prematurity, intrauterine malnutrition, or exposure to drugs or alcohol. Or later in life after brain injury, although these would not be rightly termed ld, but tbi, or encephalopathy.
