In brief: HDL is Good

Hdl or high density lipoprotein and LDL or low density lipoprotein are particles that are important in cholesterol metabolism. Hdl is the "good" particle that pulls cholesterol out of the arterial wall.
Ldl is the "bad" particle particularly when it is "dense" or cholesterol laden that allow cholesterol transportation and deposition into the artery wall accelerating atherosclerosis.
