Could campral be used by patients who abuse other substances in addition to alcohol?

No. There is no evidence that acamprosate works for anything other than alcohol abuse. It works to decrease the potential of the brain to make a substance called glutamate, and alcohol abuse is the only known cause of elevating glutamate levels in the brain, so far as i know. There are other medications which may work for other drugs of abuse. If you are having drug problems, talk with your doctor.
