In brief: Dry eye

The gritty feeling is likely due to dry eye-related ocular surface irritation.
Try using frequent artificial tears.

In brief: Too tight/too dry

It's best for you to see your eye md to reassure your contact lenses are fitting properly.
Also your symptoms seem to indicate that your eyes are dry. Your lenses could also have protein deposits on them. If you continue with contact lens irritation, your eyes may be more susceptible to infection. Leave them out, lubricate your eyes, and wear your glasses until you are evaluated.
