Is there any teratogenic cause of omphalocele?

Unsure. Omphalocele is a failure of the return of the midgut from the yolk sac to the abdomen before 10 weeks of gestation. It can be associated with other malformations and syndromes. Best to ask the neonatologist and/or a geneticist for each individual case. The intestines are involved in 1/5000 births, with liver and intestines occurring in 1/10000 births. Immediate surgical repair is required.
No. None known. Cause is unknown. Occurrence is about 1:4500-5000 live births.
