Yes, it is genetic. Tourette's disorder is among the more strongly genetic disorders with a strong behavioral presentation. Interestingly, and not yet well understood, it often co-occurs in in families with obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd), with men more likely to present with tourette's and women with ocd, although both conditions can be present in the same individual. The exact genes involved remain unknown.

Yes. Tourette syndrome (ts)does tend to have a genetic component. Not in every case, but much of the time. Ts is on a "spectrum" with obsessive compulsive disorder. Obsessions are recurrent thoughts, compulsions are recurrent behaviors or actions. Ts consists of vocal tics or recurrent sounds plus motor tics or recurrent movements. It is important, imo-to first treat the anxiety and not the tics.
