While there is a lot of evidence that schizophrenia runs in families, the specific genes have been hard to figure out.
It seems that the genetics are complicated because there is also a strong effect from environmental stressors like exposures by fetuses to certain viruses. There is also a newer idea called epigenetics in which the environment affects these genes that are related to schizophrenia.
