Does pervasive developmental delay ever happen because of vaccines?

In brief: No

It is important to know there is no association between vaccines and pdd.
In fact, since the vaccine scare, there are a certain percent of kids whose parents chose not to vaccinate, despite this, the incidence of pdd has risen. There is, however, a risk in the future for having a resurgance of childhood diseases, like measles if enough kids aren't vaccinated. Good question.

In brief: It Seems Not

A recent review of 1000 research papers on this topic demonstrated that none of them show any association with vaccines causing autism or any other form of pdd.
The studies referenced in support were interestingly enough not performred by physicians. Hmmm!

In brief: Rarely if ever

This has been studied in incredible detail, and the evidence is quite convincing that neither vaccines themselves no vaccine additives such as mercury cause pdd.
That said, some parents absolutely associate an abrupt change in their child with a vaccination days or weeks before. Rare events are quite hard to disprove, but the risks of not vaccinating children have been amply shown.
