In brief: Suicide & Gender
Statistics show that females attempt suicide more often than males, however males are more often successful with their attempts due to the lethality of their chosen method.
No matter a person's gender or age it is important that people are aware of the warning signs of a person with suicidal ideations.

One of the goals of the 'private time' that Pediatricians and Family Providers try to spend with adolescents is the ability to openly discuss depression and suicidal thoughts. Puberty is a particularly tough time, so we support every healthy outlet for discussion, especially on topics that are uncomfortable to hear.

The statistics are really quite striking: girls are 3 times more likely than boys to make a suicide attempt, while boys are 3 times more likely than girls to commit suicide.

In brief: Girls
Girls more commonly think of suicide, attempt suicide, and engage in self-harming behaviors.
However, boys are more likely to actually commit suicide.
