Is it dangerous if the baby comes out with the cord wrapped around her neck?

In brief: Could be

I've had newborns with as many as 5 neck loops or up to 3 true knots in the umbilical cord all grow up & do fine.
In both cases monitoring during labor produced heart rate changes that led to a cesarean delivery. Kids without stress patterns during labor have a loose loop & are unlikely to have problems. Sometimes the wrap prevents baby from delivering normally, holding them back like a yoyo.

In brief: No

Although the scenario sounds scary, it is actually fairly common to find a "nuchal cord, " an umbilical cord wrapped around the neck, as well as a shoulder, or even leg.
The umbilical cord is designed to handle tightening and stretching, because it contains a gelatinous substance within the cord called "wharton's jelly" -- a natural shock absorber!
