In brief: How badly ruptured
If you are not actively bleeding or are only minimally bleeding it can be watched and left in place.
If bleeding is heavy or uncontrollable it will be removed if you are an adult or if you are a child an attempt to repair the spleen may be undertaken.

In brief: Splenectomy
The spleen is removed as it will have a tendency to blew profusely.
The spleen is a highly vascular organ, and when it is damaged it tends to cause massive bleeding that is in need to be stopped asap.
