In brief: More mainstream

With regards to heart surgery i think it is becoming more mainstream. 10 yrs ago very few heart surgeons offered much with regards to minimally invasive surgery.
As the equipment to help us has improved more and more can be done thru smaller incision. The davinci robot has also been a major factor in pushing minimally invasive surgery of the heart forward. It's an exciting time in heart surgery.

In brief: Yes

Major advances aided by surgical robots have been remote surgery, minimally invasive surgery and unmanned surgery.
Some major advantages of robotic surgery are precision, miniaturization, smaller incisions, decreased blood loss, less pain, and quicker healing time. Further advantages are articulation beyond normal manipulation and three-dimensional magnification, resulting in improved ergonomics.
