In brief: Hypertension
You can try low salt diet and exercise, along with meditation and yoga but if you have more than a borderline hypertension, you're better off doing those and consulting and doctor for medication.
If good control is obtained and you're sticking to the diet, exercise, etc. Can always try to back off the drugs at that point.

In brief: Here are the ways.
Weight loss, exercise and cutting salt intake are the major lifestyle treatments.
In many patients this doesn't result in complete normalization of blood pressure. Fortunately there are many medications that will return blood press to normal levels. Treatment of hypertension is important. Elevated blood pressure often causes no symptoms but is major risk factor for stroke and heart disease.
