In brief: Heart disease

The coronary arteries arise in the aortic root and branch across the heart with branches extending around and into the myocardium.

In brief: Aorta

The main coronary arteries (right & left) originate from the aorta immediately at its root out of the heart just distal to the aortic valve.
The left anterior descending, circumflex, and posterior descending arteries emerge from these arteries and the small coronary arteries emerge from any combination of the previous 5 arteries.
