In brief: Stress test

Usually if the patient has had a heart attack for instance, a stress test is done first.
This allows the doctor to recommend the level of exercise and the heart rate which is safe. The program itself consists of supervised exercise and teaching regarding diet and risk factor modification.

In brief: Several factors

Cardiac rehab is an excellent way to increase fitness and prevent future heart problems.
Determining and individual's program depends upon their level of conditioning which is usually determined after a stress test. The program is constructed after that. Good luck and, have fun.
